Ardtornish Primary School has seen significant growth to student numbers over recent years which resulted in a disparate collection of small interventions. Following the departure of Year 7 students from the campus, the school was given the opportunity to replace existing, aged facilities allowing for the development of a new heart of the campus.
A symbol of a new era for a campus embedded in the history of a strong north-eastern community.
Place
Taking cues from the existing landscape and established trees already at the school, there was a strong desire for outdoor connections while creating modern learning environments that are both flexible and inspiring.
The resulting 1200m² build increases visual presence along Smart Road creating a new entry point that encourages further community connection to all sides of the school.
Proposition
Comprising 13 new General Learning area spaces with Breakouts, a Music room, Withdrawal spaces and amenities split across two wings and an 80-metre-long footprint, all learning spaces share a connection with Outdoor Learning areas as well as access to a new Nature Play nestled between the new build and existing infrastructure.
